You can’t tell from these pictures but the cores do tell a story.

Cores were taken a foot at a time and laid out on the tray. Using extensions, he took samples to 5′. Each foot he analyzed the soil composition.

Finally at 4 1/2′, the core revealed original timber soil-exactly what we were looking for. At that level, the soil would be stable and solid.
The situation was improving. Maybe the garage can be built after all.
