There would be a few days before the concrete was schedule so I took that time to dig a few holes.
The first was for the water line. I wanted to have a water hydrant in the building just washing and cleaning up. No bathroom. And I didn’t want to worry about freezing and having the heat on all winter. I had the builders auger a 48″ hole in the corner of the building. I was (and still am) having trouble finding someone to bore a water line from the house to the workshop so I thought I’d at least stub in the water to make it easier to run the line at a later date.
I rented a trencher and cut a line a straight out from the building about 15′. I then dug to connect the 4′ hole in the building to the 4′ trench. That was some of the toughest digging. Packed clay! Plus my shade would disappear around 10:00 AM slowly reaching 90 by noon. So that took a few ‘sessions’ to complete. I got it down to 42″ and just couldn’t reach any further. That would have to do. I’ll probably be safe from freezing at that depth. Probably.
I also took the opportunity to trench some tile lines to help with drainage. The building is at the end of a small slop and I know water flowed towards the building. Now the tile will take the water straight out over the hill into the timber.
