The wrap also gave me an idea of the outside of the building. You’ll notice the standing water. It must have rained 3″ over a two day span. That did slow the crew down but that’s all part of the process. At least now with the roof on, the inside stayed much drier.
More headway. Day 4
The wrap defined the inside of the building and I am now able to get and idea of the size.
The rough framing is done. Day 3
The rain finally stopped for a few days but then the heat came. 85 degrees and sunshine is fine of you are on the beach but not working on top of a building with no shade.
The framing is going pretty quick. Day 2
Breaking Ground !!! Day 1
The actual build begins Note: I’ve set the build posts up to go out on a daily basis. There will be 12 posts. While the time to complete the building was about three weeks, delays were mostly due to rain and heat. So the posts will be like there were no delays. Yes I do…
The most crucial delivery of all. Day 0
The building is now on the schedule!!! It’s early June. No material delivered yet. However, the most important structure was just delivered!
Finishing the wall in style
I would like to take a moment to comment about two things. First, “building retaining walls is for a younger crew!” Twenty-two 36″ holes, a 36×36″ trench sixty feet long, drilling and driving the rebar into the forty two ties (3-4 bars per tie) left me just a little sore and tired. But I got…
Dead man walking
The wall was progressing nicely. I was able to borrow my neighbor’s forklift attachment that fit my tractor so lifting and moving the ties was relatively easy. I’d drop them into the trench, most of them landing upright. I’d use a sledge to knock them into place. Once I started the third course of ties,…
All and all, it’s just another tie in the wall
It was time to start the most critical structure designed to keep the dirt (and the building) put. The wall would have two sections. The first section would be a little over 40′ long and 42″ (6 courses) tall My source for telephone poles would be running thin for the next few weeks. l couldn’t…
Downspout tile rerouting
Once the dirt was removed, I had another repair project. I knew this one was going to be needed. The downspouts on the west side of the house dropped into 4″ tile and drained west some 40′ down the hill and out to the timber. Once the grading started, he found the tiles immediately. I…
